One of the Ash Wednesday blessings used while placing ashes on our foreheads is "Repent and believe the good news." Repent - feel sorry for - has long been understood as sorrow for our mistakes, omissions and all those things that block our ability to receive and give love.  Believing in the good news has become more of a challenge in our lives.

Lent is a time for reflection on our Father's great love in sending his Son to bring the good news and in the process dying for us.  Jesus' ministry was spent telling us that we are beloved children of God.  We need not fear - "my peace I leave with you."

Lent is a time of gratitude, hope and enthusiasm to continue to create a just and peace filled life. Beatrice Bruteau, in her book The Holy Thursday Revolution, encourages us to "Live, love, laugh and be happy.  God is in the midst of creating a wonderful world and you're needed to make it grow properly from the inside out.  Therefore be creative.  Color the world with imagination.  Sing new worlds into existence.  Dance with joy!"
